A C-mount telecentric lens is used in applications where high accurate measurements are required. This is because a telecentric lens has reduced image distortion, constant magnification, high resolution, no perspective errors and no lens shading. This results in an image where the magnification, light intensity and distortion are uniform across the complete field of view.

How to mount a telecentric lens

Our telecentric lenses are c-mount compatible. They fit on our standard c-mount machine vision cameras. When using the telecentric lens horizontally, the lens needs to have a support bracket, otherwise the tension on the c-mount of the machine vision camera becomes too large.

While telecentric lenses offer unique advantages in machine vision applications, their mounting orientation can impact performance.  When mounted vertically, telecentric lenses technically don't require a dedicated support bracket. However, mechanical designers frequently choose to include one to address potential vibration issues.

A dedicated support bracket provides a more stable platform for the telecentric lens. By effectively mounting the lens to the main body of the machine, vibrations are minimized. This translates to sharper, clearer images, a critical factor for successful machine vision applications in tasks like inspection, measurement, and object recognition.

Telecentric lens with coaxial light input

Our telecentric lenses can be equipped with a coaxial light input.  When connecting a LED coaxial light, a half transparent mirror inside the telecentric lens will project the light through the lens on the object. It creates a uniform light without the need for an external light, making the setup very easy to integrate.
