Industrial Machine Vision SWIR Bar Light Series

Bar lights are industrial LED lights for illuminating products in machine vision applications like surface defects on organic materials, sort foreign material and identify different materials with a computer vision system.

Our SWIR (Short Wave Infrared) bar lights are available in a range of sizes and four different wavelength options: 1050nm, 1200nm, 1300nm, and 1450nm. The type of material you're inspecting will influence the best wavelength choice.

If you can't find the right size, we can customize the SWIR bar light to fit your illumination request. Click here for the datasheets.

When to use Short Wave Infrared bar lights in your machine vision application?

Bar lights are the most commonly used lights in machine vision applications. They are very versatile. You can use them in combination with our SWIR industrial cameras in computer vision applications where you are inspecting:

  • Objects that are flat. In case an object is reflective, you need to adjust the angle of the bar light that there is no direct reflection into the camera image
  • Objects that are not flat and not reflective. These diffuse objects can always be illuminated with bar lights

In case an object is not flat and reflective, we strongly recommend using a dome light for illuminating your product.

How to use SWIR bar lights for illumination

Bar lights are commonly used in pairs of at least 2 pieces. For more complex applications, 4 or even more bar lights are used. Using our bar light mounting brackets, you can optimize the angle of the SWIR bar light, making sure there is minimal reflection. Optionally, we have diffusers and polarizers available. We recommend using the power supplies as indicated in the datasheet to control the brightness of the bar lights. Additionally, these power supplies give you the option to trigger the bar lights. Triggering the bar lights will increase the lifespan of the bar light.

How to power the SWIR bar lights

We recommend using the power supplies as indicated in the datasheet to control the brightness of the Short Wave Infrared bar lights. Additionally, these power supplies give you the option to trigger the bar lights. Triggering the bar lights will increase the lifespan of the bar light. You can check out the analog recommended power supplies for bar lights here and the digital controlled power supplies for bar lights here.  Our bar lights do work with standard 24V power supplies, however fluctuations in voltage of your own power supply may result in variable light intensity. Our power supplies are validated with our bar lights to have a stable light intensity output.

Production and quality control of SWIR bar lights

Our Short Wave Infrared LED bar lights are produced with a strict process of quality control, to ensure their reliability and consistency. Upon receiving a new batch of LEDs, the quality department completes a comprehensive check to test whether the wavelength falls within the specified tolerances. Approved LEDs are stored in a climate chamber, ready for use in production. The next stage of bar light production is automated and involves placing the LEDs on a PCB that fits the bar light, which is then followed by an inspection and soldering. Moving along the production line, the LED boards are assembled into the mechanical housing of the bar light. Post-assembly, the bar light undergoes testing to ensure that it performs according to its specification. This critical phase ensures that each bar light unit meets our uncompromising quality standards.

The production process of the SWIR bar light may also include the creation of a diffuser or polarizer. The diffuser is cut automatically, and every batch of diffuser plates undergoes transparency testing before they are cut into the correct shape. The final step involves a comprehensive quality check, where the intensity, voltage, and current of each bar light are meticulously measured. This step guarantees that all machine vision lights that leave our facility meet the required specifications. To further ensure the long-term consistency of our SWIR bar light, we have established a room dedicated to light-source age testing.

During the R&D phase of a new bar light, it will be continuously on for 1 week, while the temperature is monitored. For every new production run, each short wave infrared bar light will be continuously powered for 12 hours, ensuring that the quality and output of our machine vision lights remain uniform over time.
